Thank you for visiting our wedding registry page! For those of you who are planning to give us a gift, there are three ways of how you could help us, as we are planning to begin our life together:
Give a Cash Gift toward Our Wedding Fund – Many of you probably know how much goes to planning wedding! We wanted our event to be very special and memorable to our guests, and to have fun as much as we could. We are planning to have a swing dance instructor at the reception and are taking classes ourselves, among other things that are meant to be a surprise to our guests. So, if that is something that you wish to do, you could give us a cash gift toward an activity/part associated with our wedding, such as our “first dance” classes, a wedding photo album, our wedding cake, and others. It will be special for us to having you help us make our day unforgettable.
Make our Honeymoon Wishes Come True! – As it turned out, we are planning two “honey-bunny” trips this year. Due to Olga’s passport being in limbo with the consulate and her inability to travel internationally until October, our first adventure together will be driving across the country from San Diego, California, to our home in Brewton, Alabama! We plan on staying in Vegas, seeing Grand Canyon, and visiting old southern plantations during our trip. Then, at the end of October, we will travel to Fiji and Sydney, Australia, for our honeymoon. You can help us with any of the trips by visiting our honeymoon fund webpage below.
Give us a Gift – We are registered at Macy’s and Williams-Sonoma. We also have wish gifts that are not associated with a particular store that you can find on our “Wedding Fund and Gift Registry” link below. If you woudl like to give us a gift, we will greatly appreciate it and gladly accept it; however, what we need help with is our Honeymoon Fund and our Wedding Fund Wish Lists.
Now, if you come without a gift… we will place a big bow on your head and make you dance for us, we will make you sing in front of everyone, you will be the last in line to get your piece of cake, and if you try to run, we’ll track you down – the old Russian mafia tradition!.. :) JUST KIDDING! We understand that not everyone can give a gift. It means a lot for us to have only family and close friends with us on our special day, which includes you. We hope to see you at our wedding… soon!
When mailing your gift, you can use our address in California, if you intend for the gift to arrive prior to August 8th, 2010:
The Future Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Busby II
5700 Baltimore Drive, Unit 130
La Mesa, California 91942
For our friends and family who are on the East Cost and who would like to give us a gift after our weeding date, we recommend that you use our new home address:
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Busby II
1603 Douglas Avenue
Brewton, Alabama 36426
Thank you so much for your support and being with us at such a happy time of our lives!
This site features our Wedding Cash Fund. It also shows gifts from the Williams Sonoma Store, and other items not associated with a specific store.
This link will lead you to our Honey Moon Wish List. You'll find activities that we'd like to do on our Honey Moon and you will have to opportunity to give us one of the activities listed as a wedding gift.
Attention Macy’s shoppers! When you visit our registry, you may see a gift that you would like to give us, but which has a notation next to it that says: “Currently unavailable for purchase”. Don’t worry, it simply means that the gift is available in stores only, so you could get outside and do some shopping in the mall! (Might as well!) We apologize for this inconvenience; we tried but decided to pass on the “changing notes” battle with Macy’s Corporation. :)

The Coronado Island Hotels web site provides a list of all the hotels on Coronado Island. You can view rates and make reservations directly from this site.
Did you know that Hotel Del Coronado is the most well-known place to get married in the world? We’ve always known that we would choose Hotel Del to have our wedding ceremony. We had a lot of happy moments and treasured memories of this beautiful place, and it is also very special to our family in many ways.
The Hotel del Coronado (also known as the “The Del” to local residents, www.hoteldel.com) is a beachfront hotel on the Coronado Island, just across the San Diego Bay from San Diego, California. The Del is one of the oldest and largest all-wooden buildings in California. When it opened in 1888, it was the largest resort hotel in the world. Today it is one of the most well-known landmarks and a legend: it has been featured in numerous movies and books, and has hosted presidents, royalty, and celebrities throughout the years – not as special as the couple that is going to “tie the knot” on August 8, 2010, of course!
Our wedding ceremony will take place in the garden surrounded by the Victorian Building with a beautiful gazebo in the center – the Victorian Garden, as we had an honor of naming it – at 11:00 in the morning. We will be very happy to see you there and share our joy with you!
Coronado Boathouse 1887 is one of our favorite places in San Diego! It is a waterfront restaurant on Coronado Island in San Diego, California, located right across the street from the Hotel Del Coronado. (Please refer to the pictures for the map of the area, as well as www.coronado-boathouse.com.)
The Boathouse was designed by the Reid brother architects - the same men who designed the Hotel Del – and built as a prototype for The Del in 1887, just a year earlier than the hotel's construction began. The Boathouse is very unique and the food is tasty!
Our wedding reception will be held from 12:30 to 4 in the afternoon. We can't waiiiiiit!
Ira, or Irishka, as we lovingly call her is Olga’s baby sister and best friend. “I always wanted a baby sister and was blessed to have her as mine! Since she was born and “took over” my world, I could never find a better friend who knew how to play dolls, cook doll food, make doll tea, roller blade, experiment with and have a laugh about our hair, snow sled-ride, travel to fun places, or understand without me saying anything… – you name it! Ira and I are very close and have been together through all happy and sad times of our lives. She is my sister!”
During the summer of 2000, Ira came to the United States to visit, but happened to stay indefinitely, as she found a scholarship at the Master’s College in the Los Angeles area. Little did she know that she also had already met her future husband who was also going to the same school, JK Shea. Irishka and JK had one of the most beautiful wedding ceremonies that we’ve ever seen in JK’s hometown in Northern California, Quincy, where Olga was the maid of honor… Today, Ira and JK are parents to two sons, Kennon and Daniel, and are expecting a daughter in November of this year who we are honored to have as a Joy Bearer on our special day. What a blessing!
Jared Hayes Busby is the 10 year old son of the Groom. There are so many great things to say about Jared. He is an excellent student; a thoughtful, loving brother to his sister and he makes his father very proud. Not only is he one of the best people I know, he has the potential to be one of the best and brightest in the future. The title of "Best Man" is very fitting!
Little Miss “Peanut” Shea was quite a surprise for us all, but not for Kennon, her older brother, who prayed to God every night asking for a baby sister, and very successfully, we might add. Of course, “Peanut” is not her real name. It has become our family tradition to announce the baby name when he/she is born, so it is still being kept a secret at this time. But, meanwhile, we call her Little Miss “Peanut”. All right, little cutie, we can’t wait to have you a part of our wedding and see you when you arrive in November! We love you!
Jodi Makayla Busby is the 13 year old daughter of the Groom and is one of the most outgoing, loving and beautiful people in the World! (Can you tell her Dad wrote this?) She is not only very smart and beautiful, but she is also very talented! She has a voice that will bring you to tears! (In a good way, not in the way my singing brings people to tears.) She is a true treasure!
Anna and Olga became family six years ago when her brother, John Kennon Shea, married Olga's sister, Irina. Since then, Anna has graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in English Literature. Anna loves to travel. For her sophomore year, Anna lived in a villa in Florence, Italy. She currently teaches 6-12th grade English in her hometown, Quincy, California. Anna loves the arts, the outdoors, and the rich conversation that only seems to happen around a campfire. Horseback riding, flying (Anna is a licensed pilot!), painting, and singing are among Anna's favorite things to do. She and Olga also share the ultimate joy of being aunties together!
Anna is delighted to be a bridesmaid for Olga and Joe! And so are we! Anna has a beautiful sweet and loving heart and spirit that makes you want to be around her all the time! We love you, Anna! It is a big honor to have you with us on our special day!
Theresa is one of Olga’s best friends and co-conspirators. There were (and surely will be) a lot of travels and adventures that Olga and Theresa had together and which would not be nearly as fun as they were with Theresa! There were also great times that Olga was thankful to share with Theresa and sad times that she had Theresa as a friend by her side. If you have ever met Theresa, you would agree that she is one of the most amazing and beautiful people that you could ever meet. She is also a real pirate! Theresa loves to travel and try new things, she can’t live without books and music, she a big time tennis champion, an aspiring home chef, a famous “pro” in her line of work, and is now an owner to her childhood home. But most of all, Theresa has the biggest loving heart – she loves her family more than anything and has a lot of friends that she is there for 200%. We both feel unbelievably blessed to have Theresa in our lives as our closest friend, and honored to have Theresa as a part of our special day.
John Kennon is Olga’s brother-in-law and can’t wait to be Joe’s too! He was born in San Diego 2 years before his family “escaped” big city life by moving to the small mountain paradise of Quincy, CA. Growing up there brought the appreciation for the kind of close community that can only be achieved in a small town, and of course the adventure of the great outdoors, which you can see from the pictures is shared by all Sheas. Even in the isolated town of 5,000 people in the northern sierras, his childhood was not without far reaching adventures that exposed him to other cultures: like the time his father flew the church youth group from Quincy across the Bering sea to Siberia in his single engine Piper Malibu. They were awaited by armed guards with AK-47s. Armored personnel carriers transported them through 12 foot snow drifts to a native village with walruses and sled dogs, where they put on cross-cultural performances and shared the gospel with people who had never heard it before. There began a love for cross-cultural adventures, and especially Russia, that has never been quenched.
John Kennon went to The Master’s College in LA where he fell in love with Ira, Olga’s sister, who was following in Olga’s footsteps by majoring in Business Administration, a major which they shared. Now J. K. uses his education in business to oversee the Shea’s family business, a group of nursing and rehabilitation facilities. J. K. would also like to combine the loves that his father imparted to his family; business, adventure, and missions, by starting socially responsible businesses in developing countries. He’s currently trying to get Olga and Joe to help him start a casino in Haiti. Just kidding!
Graham Shea has been Olga’s friend since she came to the US about 10 years ago for graduate school. He grew up in the mountains of northern California, studied journalism and economics at Pepperdine University, and recently attended a graduate research fellowship in Maryland, where he is currently on staff. He plans either to go back to school in the fall to study English literature, or return to his beloved mountains, help teach at a local Christian school, and support his brother J. K. in running the family healthcare business.
Graham maintains about as many hobbies as he can survive, including most outdoor sports, sailing, aviation, photography, and music. He also has a passion for missions and international travel. Graham is unbelievably talented and excels at anything that he tries to do, be it a sport or a science. If you see a man jumping from an airplane – it is Graham, the fastest skier – it is Graham, a brave skillful pilot – it is Graham! We know that one day very soon Graham will hire us for protection from paparazzi because he will become famous for winning a Nobel Prize for one of his inventions, writing a famous movie script, making a famous photo, or creating a legendary piece of music!... Or may be becoming a husband and the best dad – after all, one of Graham’s biggest possessions is his heart – it is Graham!
Graham, we couldn’t be happier to have you at our wedding and a part of our special day! We love you and feel honored to be your friends!
Kennon is Olga’s very first nephew and a very good little boy – such a blessing to us all!.. Although he is not going to agree with you about being little. He is soon to be four years old and he has dreamt of being a ring bearer for his auntie Olia’s wedding since the first time his Russian grandmother told him a beautiful bed-time story about how auntie Olia would soon become a princess as she marries her prince “Mister Joe”. Yes - it is Kennon who started it all, and now everybody in Olga’s family calls Joe as “Mr. Joe”, even when Kennon is not around!
Kennon Alexander Shea was named after his two grandfathers. His American grandfather, Kennon S. Shea, is now with the Lord. Kennon dearly loves his American grandpa even though he never got a chance to meet him. Kennon likes science and knows more about biology, chemistry, geology, and astronomy than you do – believe us! He also is a talented diplomat, as he proved to be able to conduct negotiations with his babysitter (usually a poor tired family member or a friend) in the course of 12 hours and still not go to sleep. When he grows up he dreams about being married and having 2 sons and a daughter, like his father and grandfather. Regardless of who he chooses to become when he grows up, we know that he will reach the highest of the high and will not only excel at it, but be known and loved for being a peace-maker among people. In meanwhile, though, he works as an interpreter between the Russian and American sides of his family.
Kennon is also responsible for praying everyday and asking God to give him a baby sister, who we all are now excited to meet in November of this year, and who will be a part of our wedding ceremony with her mommy who is the maid of honor. Surprise! Thank you, Kennon! We Love You!
Daniel is Olga’s nephew and is a very good and a fun little boy! If you were to ask him, he would present himself by proudly saying: “I am Daniel, I am two, and I am Handsome…” By the way, it is very true! Daniel likes to eat yummy foods with very few exceptions, play and sing. He also likes to see dreams about McQueen and Thomas the Train. One of his favorite CD’s is a collection of songs about Daniel, which he likes to hum. And we are proud to say that he sang his first début with his best friends, auntie Olia and Mr. Joe, on his first birthday about the “itsy bitsy spider” by making the deep “spider being washed by the water” sound at the end of each rhyme: “AAUUEEERRR…” Bravo, Daniel! You Rock!
Joe met Olga before Daniel was born, so it was very special for him to wait for Daniel’s arrival and receive a phone call when Daniel was born. Now the big task begins of the undertaking the great transition from “Mr. Joe” to “Uncle Joe” – oh boy!..
Unlike Kennon, Daniel is not very much into science, but he is an unbelievably talented engineer. Daniel can take apart pretty complex pieces of electronics and piece them back together. He also knows how to turn on and off very crucial toys and household items, such as satellite TV – things that auntie Olga and future uncle Joe are still struggling to figure out! And, we are NOT kidding!
Daniel Watson Shea was given an honored American family name after the founders of the successful family-owned Watson Land Company in the Los Angeles area. But, despite his strong and honorable Spanish and American origins and ancestry, the Russian roots still lead “2:0” as the two-year old Daniel looks like an identical twin to his Russian grandmother Vera! As Vera’s older sister put it: “When I first saw little Daniel running towards me, my heart stopped movin' and I felt the blood rushing through my veins, as I remembered all the things my little sister made me go through!” If you do not believe us, see it for yourself - check the photos and try distinguishing between little Daniel and little Vera!
Danilka, we love you and are honored to have you as our Page and Flower Boy at our wedding ceremony!
My parents are the greatest couple in the world who are the example that I will always follow. I owe everything that I have ever achieved or done in life to my mother and father: beginning from my first steps as a baby, to high school, college and grad school graduation, to leaving Russia in order to begin my new life in the United States, to not giving up and wait for a perfect man to marry!
Even if everything else was dim in my life, I would have already felt as the most blessed by God – because He gave me to parents like mine. And it will be my honor to follow my mother’s example when I become a mother one day.
My mom’s name is Vera, which is Russian means “faith”. She was the first in her family to get a university education to become a teacher of literature and the Russian language. However, her career had to wait and build up from a kindergarten to a high school teacher, as my sister and I were growing up, and “take breaks” as she followed my father from one town to another due to his service as a military engineer in the Russian air force. Just like my mother never became a professor, my father never became a general, as he once dreamed when he graduated from a higher military academy (also the first in his family). But he never regretted it as he told me once – he made the decision to focus on his family, rather than on his career, which turned out to be a more rewarding and much greater success than he could ever imagine it.
My parents have one of the most beautiful and romantic stories that I cannot help but share… My father didn’t know exactly what kind of woman he wanted to marry until once, when he visited home on a summer break from the military academy, he saw an article in a local newspaper about a university student in the nearby city who not only did a lot for her school and others, but also had beautiful brown eyes, a sweet and an open smile, and a long braid – just like a symbol of Russian beauty pictured by Russian artists. My father thought to himself how great it would be to marry a woman just like that… Time passed. One summer, traveling through Moscow after having visited his sick dad, my father got an urgent sad telegraph - my grandfather Sergey passed away so my father had to take a train back home. My mother was also traveling back home from Moscow after having visited her sister who had an internship there. It was my mother’s birthday, and the two sisters giggled about the comment made by a friend who said that a girl like her should not agree to a marriage unless it was to a general. As they found my mother’s seat in the train car and saw a handsome man in a military uniform sitting next to her, they laughed even more!.. Later in the year, my father made time to travel to the city where my mother went to college. They met, began exchanging letters, and very soon were engaged to be married… It was a year after their wedding anniversary. My parents were visiting my grandparents (Vera’s parents), when my father found a page from a local newspaper neatly and carefully saved among the family photos and other family keepsakes. It was that same article that years ago helped my father understand what kind of woman he wanted to spend his life with, and the picture in the article was a picture of my mother…
Mark is the father of the groom. He currently lives in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He recently retired from the Air Force and has been stationed in various places in the U.S. and overseas in Italy, Germany and most recently in the United Arab Emirates during the current Iraq War. Mark recieved a Master's Degree in Political Science from Athens University. He also minored in physics and mathematics; and enjoys recreational flying as a private pilot.
Earline is the Mother of the Groom. She is a lifelong nurse at the local hospital in Atmore, Alabama. For the past several years she has worked in the Emergency Room, but prior to that she worked in the OB Department and delivered her grandchildren, Jared (Best Man) and Jodi (Bridesmaid), when they were born.
It's hard to decide which proposal to tell everyone about, so I'll guess I'll go with the one when she finally said Yes! Actually her words were, "I Will Marry You!", which was much more special to me than just a simple "Yes".
The reason there is more than one proposal story is because it wasn't very long into our relationship that I had decided that I was going to marry Olga. And once I told her that I had already planned our future together, the proposals began! I've proposed to her all over this Country, Canada, flying over Iceland and in many parts of Russia; but this is the story of the final proposal in Pensacola, Florida.
So we had discussed getting married and I was very eager, but Olga had very specific requirements for the proposal (I think she was just trying to make it hard for me). She wanted there to be flowers and we had to be near the ocean and there had to be a beautiful ring. (All things that a woman should expect at a minimum!)
I felt my "window" was approaching and the time had arrived, unfortunatley it was literally a very small time window so I had to try and plan everything according to when we were going to see each other again. I had the ring, I had the ocean views and the flowers and I had spoken to Sasha (Olga's father) and gotten his blessing to ask Olga to marry me. Of course, nothing works out perfectly! During the visit I was planning on proposing, I was assigned to be a part of the management team responsible for opening a new property the company had just invested in, so I was on call the entire weekend that Olga was visiting.
We also suffered another set back, when Olga arrived on January 20th (the Big Day!) she was ill and we spent most of the afternoon and late into the night at the emergency room. Thankfully it was nothing serious (I think she was on to my plans and was stalling for time!) and we were able to resume our plans the next day. Which is good news, because as I told Olga later, she was almost proposed to in a hospital! I could barely wait! And I kept getting texts from the family (Ira!)about whether or not she said Yes!
So it was the morning of January 21st and we could see the Escambia Bay out of the rear window of our Condo on Pensacola Beach and we could see the Gulf of Mexico (sort of an ocean) out of the large front windows, there were flowers on the table that I picked up the day before and I had a custom designed engagement ring in my pocket.
I asked her if she thought the water was beautiful and if the flowers were beautiful and then I got down on both knees and asked her to marry me. I'm not sure how, but I managed to get the ring out of my pocket and place it on the counter top next to where we were standing. She looked at me, as I knelt there and smiled (she probably thought that this was just another proposal), then she glanced at the counter top, saw the ring and said the words, "I Will Marry You!"
It was wonderful! After 2 1/2 years of pursuing this beautiful woman, she was finally mine! I knew that the hard part was now about to begin............I had to keep her fooled long enough to make it to the wedding!
Fortunately we were able to spend some time together celebrating - with only 12 or 20 interruptions from work!
By the way, thanks for visiting our website and learning about our story. The domain name "sailwitholgaandjoe" was Olga's creation................if it had been up to me you would be logging in to "redsquaremeetsredneck.com"!
See You Soon!
Where to begin!? I guess at the beginning............about three years ago, we met at work. Looking back, we can see right away that a higher power brought us together. A young woman from Russia meeting a young man from southern Alabama and ending up falling in Love and getting married must involve divine intervention!
A series of events over our life times (not always good events) brought each of us to the same place at the same time. Joe was not even supposed to be helping Olga with the work she was there to do, it just happened that Joe's boss was busy and asked him to help out in his absense. Joe knew almost right away that there was something special about Olga and over the next few months got to know her better as they became friends. The friendship grew into a desire for a relationship relatively quickly for Joe and almost three years later, with much relentlessness and stubborness, Joe pursued and won Olga's heart.
During that time, they traveled together to many fun and interesting places. The experience of a long distance relationship was not as difficult as many people has said it would be, there were telephone calls every night. Over the course of the relationship, emails, gifts, letters and flowers were sent between Alabama and California. There were weekend visits, including Friday to Sunday visits, meaning only one full day to see one another! And there were suprise visits; Joe thought Mapquest was lying when it said it takes 12 hours to drive from Alabama to Missouri where Olga was working one week. He trusts Mapquest now! (It took every minute!)
There are so many fun stories to tell about the travels and the time together leading up to this wonderful event!
We hope to share these stories with you and we hope to be an encouragement to those that have found that special someone and for those that are still looking. We are a testament to the fact that God's plan for us is sometimes carried out in the most unexpected ways and with the most unexpected of blessings, which we have found in one another.
Thanks to all of you for being a part of this special time.
Joe and Olia
Hi Friends and Family!
We look forward to seeing you at the Wedding! As most of you know, this is a long awaited event and we hope to make it a special experience for everyone. For those of you that I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet, I've included a little information about myself:
My name is Joseph M. Busby II, I have a 13 year old daughter, Jodi, and a 10 year old son, Jared. I was born in Biloxi, Mississippi in January 1974. I currently reside in Brewton, Alabama and work as the Director of Regulatory Compliance for a Tribal Casino Organization. As you'll see from the photos in this album I enjoy sailing and traveling and hope to continue enjoying all of the adventures life has to offer with Olga and our family!
I look forward to seeing everyone in August!
